Edwards in line for Cats comeback

Thu 13 Mar, 01:15 PM

Carlos Edwards is set to return to the Sunderland squad against Chelsea this weekend after turning out for the reserves on Wednesday night. The winger featured against Manchester United's second string and, all being well, should be able to take his place on the bench against Avram Grant's side on Saturday.

The Trinidad & Tobago international suffered a broken leg during training back in December, the second long-term injury he has picked up this season.

He has been restricted to just five first-team appearances as a result, but his return to the fold has been welcomed by team-mate Phil Bardsley.

"He's a livewire and someone who can upset the back four and it will be nice to have him back," Bardley told the Northern Echo.

"Everybody seems to like a midfielder to sit and one to attack, and a striker likes to get used to someone as his strike-partner.

"It's the same as a full back, and you can get a good relationship going with the midfielder in front of you.

"He has great crossing ability and he has the ability to get in behind teams and hurt them that way."
