Latics miss out on Schmeichel

Thu 13 Mar, 02:30 PM

Oldham have failed in a bid to sign goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel from Manchester City on loan. The 21-year-old has fallen behind Joe Hart and Andreas Isaksson in the pecking order at Eastlands, but Manchester City confirmed he would be joining Championship outfit Coventry.

Oldham boss John Sheridan is desperately searching for a goalkeeper before the trip to Luton on Saturday, with Mark Crossley set to miss the next two weeks with a groin injury.

"Mark's got a slight groin problem which isn't too bad, but I still think he's going to miss a few games.

"I've made a few phone calls already and have enquired about two keepers who I'm waiting to get back to me. I think we need to get one in because young Josh Bell isn't quite ready for first-team football yet.

"With the position we're in we need to be right and I'll be trying to get a decent keeper in who can help us get the win we need at Luton."
