Hoops Title Hopes Dented

Thu 13 Mar, 12:34 AM

Dundee United dented Celtic's title hopes with a hard-fought goalless draw at Parkhead on Wednesday night.

Shunsuke Nakamura and Scott Brown hit the woodwork for the home side in the first half, but they struggled to find a way through a stubborn United defence.

Craig Conway had United's best chance of the game, but he failed to score from just six yards out.

The draw leaves Celtic three points behind Rangers with their Old Firm rivals having a game in hand.

The point moves Dundee United into third place to boost their hopes of qualifying for Europe and was a real morale-boost ahead of their CIS Cup final with Rangers this weekend.

In the night's other game Hibernian boosed their European hopes with a 1-0 win over Motherwell at Easter Road.

Colin Nish scored the only goal of the game on 52 minutes to give Hibs the three points.

Hibs had to hold on for the win after Ian Murray was sent off ten minutes from time for a second bookable offence.
