Champions League - Ranieri slams Trezeguet sulk

Eurosport - Fri, 13 Mar 16:18:00 2009

Juventus coach Claudio Ranieri lambasted striker David Trezeguet for complaining about being substituted in his side's Champions League defeat to Chelsea.

FOOTBALL 2008-2009 Serie A Juventus David Trezeguet - 0

The French forward explained that he was upset at being taken off when Juve needed goals in the last-16 second leg in Turin.

The game ended 2-2 with Chelsea progressing 3-2 on aggregate, but Ranieri has revealed his frustration with his player's petulance despite the defeat.

"He has disappointed me as a man," he said.

"He should not complain in the newspapers. We have not talked; clearly he doesn't have consideration for me."

The Italian coach admitted that some of his substitutions are debatable, but insisted that his judgement should not be questioned by his players.

"I make mistakes but I had reasons (for the substitution)," Ranieri said.

Trezeguet, who has fallen out with France coach Raymond Domenech, was close to leaving Turin when the Old Lady won promotion back to Serie A two years ago after their 2006 match-fixing demotion.

The Frenchman made a crude gesture to the director's box on that occasion after saying he felt 'unloved' by the club but has since settled back down.

Juventus president Giovanni Cobolli Gigli backed Ranieri's response, but remained adamant that the striker would be staying at the club.

Trezeguet, 31, has only just returned to action after five months out with a knee problem, but misses Juve's Serie A home game with Bologna with a thigh strain.

  4. I didn't say that French players weren't talented as many of them are. I just think they have a terrible attitude that takes away from being a good teammate and brings a team down. They all seem to have an arrogant sense of entitlement that comes from what? Last I checked they haven't won any more World Cups than Uruguay and I don't see their lot causing nearly as much trouble. "Les Enfants Terribles!" Big babies.

And Um.. H C. You haven't lost your nationality? Then why is it half of France celebrates Ramadan instead of Christmas these days?

What is it with French players? They are never happy or settled and are always taking about making a dream move to another club or complaining that they feel unloved. Note to self: You ARE unloved. The whole lot of you whining, arrogant losers. Why don't you just stay with your French clubs? Oh that's right, because they stink.
