Spanish coach Quique Flores has rejected an offer to fill the vacant Benfica manager's position until the end of the season. The 43-year-old has been out of work since leaving La Liga side Valencia last October and was was wanted by the Benfica board to replace temporary coach Fernando Chalana, who took over after Antonio Camacho quit last month.
A 3-0 defeat at home to relegation strugglers Academica de Coimbra on Friday has heightened the need for change, but Flores revealed the Portuguese club are not the only ones trying to land him.
"Benfica, Olympiakos and Besiktas all wanted me to join immediately but I am not a transition or six-month coach," he said.
"Benfica are an important European club, but if I am only temporary then I cannot make long-term decisions."
Manuel Garcia Quilon, Flores' agent, added: "I have been contacted by someone linked to Benfica, asking if Quique could sign immediately until the end of the season.
"We refused it because this kind of situation does not interest us. Quique seeks another kind of project, which may start from the beginning of the next season."
