Lambert blasts 'rubbish' linesman

Sun 13 Apr, 07:00 PM

Wycombe boss Paul Lambert was left fuming at the final whistle of the 2-2 draw with MK Dons after a confrontation with linesman Steve Phipps.Sean O'Hanlon's stoppage-time equaliser ensured Wycombe had to settle for a point but it was MK Dons' first leveller from Aaron Wilbraham that had Lambert's blood boiling.

"The linesman has turned around and said he couldn't see if it was offside for their first goal because their substitute was standing in front of him," fumed Lambert. "In all my time in football I have never heard so much rubbish, absolute rubbish.

"If you are the linesman or referee just do your job, he is offside in the first place but to make the excuse that he couldn't see it because someone is in front of him is woeful.

"The game is too big to make an error like that and to give that excuse. I wouldn't mind if he said something fell from the sky and hit him in the head but to say someone stood in front of him is bizarre.

"My side have been colossal, absolutely colossal; to come here and take the lead twice is superb. They were excellent and I couldn't ask for anymore."
