Southend manager Steve Tilson was left considering what might have been after his team were held to a 1-1 home draw by plucky Northampton.Lee Barnard salvaged a point for the promotion-pushing Blues as the Shrimpers extended their unbeaten run to 12 games.
The striker slotted home a loose ball in the 51st minute to cancel out Colin Larkin's 25th minute opener for Northampton.
"We still have a little bit of work to be done and I felt we could have clinched a play-off place," said Tilson.
"We had enough chances to get the win, especially in the second half, but that's life.
"They got a lot of lads behind the ball and made life difficult for us."
