Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks has accused the Premier League club's chief executive Rick Parry of arrogance and repeated his calls for him to leave Anfield.

"Rick Parry has been Liverpool's CEO for 10 years and we haven't won a league championship under his leadership," Hicks told the Mail on Sunday.

"After watching him operate, I came to the conclusion it was time to ask him to resign - due to his inability to manage an organisation, his seemingly arrogant attitude to our supporters and his lack of communication with [manager] Rafa [Benitez]."

Hicks was reported by the media on Friday to have sent Parry a letter calling on him to quit his post but George Gillett, the second American co-owner of the Merseyside club, leapt to Parry's defence.

Gillett added it would require approval from the full Liverpool board before Parry could be removed.

But Hicks said it was vital the club had a new financial management structure before next season.

"It is important to try and have a new CEO in place by May so we can begin working with Rafa on player transfers," Hicks said.

Hicks and Gillett bought the club in February 2007 for £218.9 million and promised to leave Parry and manager Benitez to do their jobs.

However, the pair met last November with former Germany coach Juergen Klinsmann to discuss the possibility of him replacing Benitez, although nothing came of the meeting.

Tension then followed between the two American billionaires and Gillett said last month his relationship with Hicks had broken down.

Takeover negotiations with Dubai International Capital, an investment consortium that made a 400 million-pound bid for Liverpool last month, are also said to have broken down.

Liverpool are fourth in the Premier League, 14 points behind leaders Manchester United and out of contention for the title.

They face Chelsea in the Champions League semi-finals later this month.
