Paul Scholes can see no reason why Manchester United cannot win in Porto on Wednesday night to secure their place in the last four of the Champions League.
Mariano's late leveller at Old Trafford handed the Portuguese side the advantage heading into the second leg, with two away goals secured in the 2-2 draw cause for confidence in the Porto camp.
No English side has ever won at the Dragao Stadium but Scholes, who scored the opener in Saturday's 2-1 win at Sunderland, believes the task faced by Sir Alex Ferguson's side is definitely achievable.
"All we've got to do at Porto is win a football match," said Scholes.
"With the players we've got I'm sure we can do it."
After an uncharacteristic shaky spell of late, Scholes believes the Stadium of Light win could be just the boost United need.
"It's always nice to get a win. It always boosts your confidence. I think we needed a little boost.
"That was a big win for us. Liverpool had won beforehand and Chelsea won as well. It doesn't increase the pressure. You have to do your own job."
Scholes reserved special praise for match-winner Federico Macheda.
The 17-year-old's dream start to his United career continued in the North East, as he came off the bench for the second league game in succession to net his side a crucial three-point haul.
At the other end of his career, veteran Scholes knows it is important for young players to keep grounded but nonetheless had words of encouragement for the Italian starlet.
"I think he scored with his first or second touch and he looks like a great goalscorer and, hopefully, there's more to come," he concluded.
"He's a young lad but I'm sure the other boys will keep his feet on the ground."

why some liverfookinfool "fan" feels the need to comment in this discussion beggars belief.
bring it down, still waiting
The environment at porto will surprise many,it will not be an environment where settling down is easy,or staying composed is easy,Man united can win,but it will not be easy, especially if porto scores first,ls on how lets comment but focus on how hard it will be on that nite,it may even turn out to be humiliation, who knows
However unlikely it might seem on current form, any possibility can not be excluded. After all, we are talking about a great United side that has the ability to "grind out" positive results even when we are not performing well.

WE ARE TH GREATEST TEAM - SO WHY DONT YOU ALL SHUT THE F---- UP SAD ARSES ALL OF YOU
Scholes is useless in the team, just like Carrick. Yes ok so he scored a goal last week - big deal. Why didn't any of our 3 strikers score then who started? I midfield is letting us down, and that comes down to tactics and team selection. Carrick is not a tackler. Neither is Scholes. So what grit do we have in midfield? None - hence all our opposition just run at the defence and cause the likes of Vidic to make mistakes.
In the summer, get rid of Mike Phelan (he was rubbish as a player, and still is as a coach), sell Carrick, Ronaldo and Berbatov. Buy a proper gritty midfielder who can control the centre of the pitch, and buy a proper winger who can distribute the ball just like Beckham used to. That's what were missing...
You do realize you don't have to move your feet to shoot on goal right? It's called re-direction. The fact that his head was up and looking right at the place the ball ended up should be an indicator he knew exactly what he was doing. You'll forgive me I'm sure if I trust Paul Scholes opinions on football over someone who follows every one of his opinions with the word FACT. FYI I don't think that word means what you think it be meaning.
So Scholes praises Machedas winning goal against Sunderland, i agree his strike against Villa was great but come on lets be honest if you watch the replay the goal should have been credited to Carrick, why because it was his shot and it hit Machedas shins and went into the opposite corner he never moved his feet FACT!! another fact is if it hadn't hit him the keeper would have saved the shot and the game would have ended in a well deserved draw for Sunderland. Oh not glory glory Man Utd but lucky lucky Man Utd. FACT!!
Your going down man utd. NO CHAMPS LEAGUE 4 U THIS YEAR
