Tue 13 May, 04:30 PM

Tony Mowbray has hailed the all-round contribution of Kevin Phillips after the striker was named West Brom's Player of the Year. The 34-year-old earned recognition from the club's players and management after helping the Baggies claim the Championship title with 22 goals.

Mowbray told the club's official website: "It means a lot to any player when their team-mates appreciate and respect the contribution they've made.

"I would say it's not just Kevin's performances during games that have won him this award, but also his personality and manner around the training ground."

With Phillips' contract expiring at the end of the season, Mowbray hinted he is hoping the former England forward will sign a new deal and continue his fine form in the Premier League next season.

"Hopefully, he will also be high in the running for the Player of the Year award next season," he added.
