Parr Run Continues

Tue 13 May, 07:09 AM

Bawtry trainer Stuart Parr was on the mark again when Milton Of Campsie scored at the third attempt under apprentice David Nolan in the six-furlong Herald & Post Maiden Fillies' Stakes at Redcar.

Owned by soccer agent Willie McKay, the 7-1 winner is among the entries for the Juddmonte Oaks at Epsom.

But the in-form Parr, who saddled a televised winner at Chester's big May meeting last week, said: "I think she will be better over seven furlongs really, although it was soft ground when she did not get home over a mile at Newcastle.

"This is the first time she has had decent ground and I think she is better than a handicapper."

John Quinn is another with his runners in good shape and he saddled his fourth winner in as many days when Island Music made it an afternoon to remember for racecourse declarations clerk Andrew Robson.

The three-year-old (5-1) came out best under Paul Hanagan in the Evening Gazette Fillies' Handicap, being produced with a good run to catch long-time leader Fantasy Parkes well inside the final furlong.

She went on to open her account at the fifth attempt with a length to spare and Robson, whose mother Mary is a part-owner, said: "This is the first winner I have bred, although my parents have had a success as breeders.

"I bought the mare myself and it is a great day.

"Robert Miller-Blakewell is the other part-owner, I am his racing advisor and he could not come today because of business commitments."

Quinn said: "They sent the horse to me as a yearling and they are great people to train for.

"Things are going OK and touch wood, we will keep it going."

Richard Fahey's Gala Casino Star had been leaving his connections puzzled over what distance he needed, but the nine furlongs of the Market Cross Jewellers Handicap certainly suited him and initiated a double for Hanagan.

Fahey said of his 8-1 winner: "If he had not run well I would not have known what to say to his owners.

"He was bought to be a jumper, but he finished second over six furlongs at York as a two-year-old so we were not sure what to make of him."

There was a turn up in the Weddings At The Morritt Median Auction Maiden Stakes when 16-1 chance Lucky Leigh raced to a convincing success under Eddie Creighton.

In contrast there was a tight finish to the Medics UK Selling Stakes with Kenmore (3-1) just getting the nose verdict in the hands of Graham Gibbons.

Kenmore is trained by James Given for Paul Moulton, who retained the gelding without a bid and said: "He is rated 70 and I am surprised he did not attract a bid."

Tom Eaves made the most of his first ride for Newmarket trainer Chris Wall when bringing 16-1 chance Charlevoix home in front in the concluding Boddingtons Redcar Straight-Mile Championship (Qualifier).
