Real Madrid have struck a £71 million deal to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United, according to a Spanish newspaper.

El Pais has reported that both the player and United have signed agreements authorising the world record move, which would take place at the end of the season.

The Portuguese international (pictured, centre) has been a long-term target for the Liga giants, and he has described it as his "dream" to play for them.

However Ballon d'Or winner Ronaldo, who is contracted to United until 2012, recently said he was happy at Old Trafford.

Ronaldo is a leading target for Florentino Perez, the favourite to win Real's presidential elections this summer.

In his first spell as club president, Perez broke the world transfer record twice to sign Luis Figo and Zinedine Zidane, and also brought David Beckham and Ronaldo to the Bernabeu.

However, Tuesday's Madrid-based sports daily Marca said the Perez camp had identified Milan playmaker Kaka (pictured, right) as their primary transfer target because "he is less expensive and this would allow him to recruit more players".

Marca said that, in addition to the Brazilian, Real would sign two more high-profile players which could include Ronaldo, France winger Franck Ribery (pictured, left) and Spain striker David Villa.

  2. What a complete waste of money, Ronaldo is nothing short of a player who looks good against EPL defenses, when ever he comes up against a good solid team such as Chelsea or Liverpool he almost never scores, I am really supriced at the price as I think he his worth no more than 25mill by todays prices, if Madrid are still a team full of has beens then Ronaldo will struggle and he would be better of at the mancs......

  7. Here we go again more @#$% from Real. Lets see what happens this time. Frightened teams trying to unsettle the top team in the EPL. Lets ignore these reports until they happen. They've tried it with Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Rooney etc, etc. Just sensationary journalists trying to cause mischief again. Get a life and get off your arses and go and find some real stories that are true.

  12. 71 million that will do nicely wonder, which UTD trained player (Get Real Madrid ) will buy next before they work out its the team success and dominating the most popular / watched league in he world. This is the formula that makes UTD the most supported club in the world. The truth is The EPL should be named World Series as it has some of the worlds best players and managers from nations across the globe. The teams are now owned by the worlds rich.
The Champions League has become a side event this is what Blatter and Platini are so afraid of. Mark my words the EPL clubs will see more and more Foreign ownership, Madrid would actually be better of buying a EPL football club rather than a player.

  13. idf ronaldo leaves united he will never be the same player again other managers would not be able to mollycuddle him the way saf does he would not get on with his team mates at other clubs he is two big for his boots therefor any team that signs him it would cause major disruption in the team spirit so shut ur mouth and stay at the greatest club and go on to surpass pele

  19. Ronaldo will not have any better seasons as he had last year. Fergie knows that and 71 mil in the club's account will allow him to get three-four players that combined can serve the club much better than Ronny. Fergie will let him go this summer because he understands that the price can only go down from where it is now.
I hope Liverpool wins the title though.

  20. SAF is not against selling his ''star'' players and then replacing them with someone who wants to play for Utd. Anyone remember Ruud Van Nistellroy or @#$% Stam? He will only sell Ronaldo if he has lined up an adequate replacement. Either way life goes on.
