Barnsley's Michael Coulson wants to repay manager Simon Davey for standing by him through successive career-threatening injuries.

Striker Coulson, 22, missed most of the season after first rupturing his cruciate in April 2008 and suffered a similar injury to the same knee three games into his comeback in January.

Coulson told the club's official website: "There are a lot of people at the club who I need to repay, starting with the manager.

"He has stood by me and told me I would be getting a new deal the week after my injury, which was a massive boost.

"Simon promised me the contract and he has stood by his word. Now I want to repay him by getting back fit. There's no way I'm going anywhere else."

Coulson added: "I have my targets in mind and the middle of August will be six months post operation, so hopefully I can look to that."
