Paul Ifill admits his departure from Crystal Palace has come as no surprise after he turned down a new contract in January.
The winger has been released by manager Neil Warnock having failed to agree terms on a one-year deal with the Eagles at the turn of the year.
"It wasn't really a shock," he told the Croydon Advertiser.
He added: "After speaking to the gaffer a few times from when the deal was offered in January it was clear we weren't going to agree on a deal. It's a lot easier to take when you are expecting it."
Warnock is set to open contract talks with skipper Shaun Derry, whose current deal runs out at the end of next season.
"I'll speak to Shaun before I go away for a couple of weeks," said Warnock.

we all need to get behind the next team 09/10 to let them know they still have the best fans, who are ready for the top flight of football.
