Football League new boys Aldershot and Exeter have been handed plum draws against Coventry and Southampton in the Carling Cup first round. The Shots secured promotion back to the Football League - 16 years after Aldershot FC folded - as champions and will face Chris Coleman's men at the Ricoh Arena.

Exeter - who return to the Football League after a five-year absence following their play-off final win over Cambridge at Wembley - host Southampton at St James' Park.

The regionalised and seeded draw has thrown up a number of intriguing local derbies, particularly in the northern section where Sheffield Wednesday host cash-strapped neighbours Rotherham.

Bradford travel to fierce Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield while across the Pennines Bury face Lancashire neighbours Burnley at Gigg Lane.
