Lee Richardson's Chesterfield side will travel to Deepdale to face Preston North End in the first round of the Carling Cup.It is the third successive season that the Spireites have been drawn against Championship opposition in the opening round of the competition.

Chesterfield won on their last visit to Deepdale, when second-half goals from Roger Willis and David Reeves gave them a 2-0 League One victory in September 1999.

The tie will be played in the week commencing August 11.
