Premier League - Portsmouth dismiss Thaksin link

Portsmouth insist neither former Manchester City owner Thaksin Shinawatra nor Premier League chairman Sir Dave Richards is involved in the impending takeover of the club.

Property billionaire Dr Sulaiman Al Fahim is close to taking over at Fratton Park with due diligence set to be completed within the next month. However, the club have denied newspaper claims former Thai prime minister Thaksin and Richards have had a role to play in the deal.

A statement said: "Portsmouth FC would like to confirm that neither Dr Thaksin Shinawatra nor his advisor Pairoj Piempongsat are involved in funding Dr Sulaiman al Fahim's bid to buy the club.

"A representative for Dr Sulaiman al Fahim met with Premier League officials last week and confirmed he is the sole purchaser of the football club and this will be verified by his lawyers.

"Pompey executive chairman Peter Storrie met Pairoj Piempongsat during his time at Manchester City some two years ago. Pairoj subsequently introduced Mr Storrie to Dr Sulaiman al Fahim and that is the extent of his involvement in the proposed takeover."

As for suggestions Richards has a role in the sale, Pompey stated: "Sir Dave Richards has had no role to play in the proposed takeover, other than providing advice in his role as chairman of the Premier League and to suggest otherwise undermines the excellent work he does in his position."

  2. the deal will go through if people stop telling a bunch­ of lies. Also if Harry did not leave Pompey at the time­ he did we would not of recieved the 4 milion for him­ which we badly needed as we had no money to pay for­ anything as our man lost all his money in the crash and­ a lot of people will disagree with me but i would like­ to see harry come back as he is the best person for­ getting hold of good players which we will need next­ season especially as Glenn Johnston is going what have­ we got left. NO defenders NO strikers

  4. SapperCommando: Agree with you 100%. As someone who­ lived in Thailand for 13 years, I can tell you that any­ Thai with money is one of the worst people you could­ ever wish to meet. And he is the worst of the worst. A­ crook, a liar and a mass murderer. And including his­ corrupt wife and kids who are studying in England.­ Deport the lot NOW!   6. i wish peter storrie would stop his dodgy deals and­ feeding us with false promise and follow redknapp the­ judas out of the exit door...all this takeover rubbish­ is damaging the club further and we are falling behind­ in the signing of players for pre season as well as the­ being left in limbo with players not knowing what to do­ as regards of contracts etc....yet again,were the­ laughing stock of the premier league...sort it out­ pompey or be doomed next season with no players.......

  7. Yeah and we all believe what The Sun tells us dont we,­ rubbish chav newspaper whos biggest news today was this­ and how much cheryl cole ate last night at a­ resturant.

    trust me the sun will get in trouble for­ printing that and pompey will probably take them to the­ cleaners, then what will the chavs read? , they might­ have to end up reading the mail and not understanding­ the articles but only for the comic strips.

    and why­ didnt the sun ask White Van Man what his opinions were­ of the deal.
