McGinn keen to impress new Hoops boss

Niall McGinn jetted off to Spain on holiday on Saturday vowing to make a bid for first-team football at Celtic next season - regardless of which new manager awaits him.

The Parkhead club's bid to bring in Tony Mowbray continues to be held up by West Brom's demand for £2million in compensation.

McGinn is relishing the clean slate that the whole Hoops squad will have when they return to pre-season training and said: "I assume there will be a new manager in place by the time I come back. It's the board's decision but whoever it is, the players will all be starting from scratch."

He added: "We are meant to report back for training on July 1 but maybe the new manager will change that.

"However, whenever we get back I will hope to make an impression on him.

"We are all out to prove ourselves, especially myself because I came to Celtic late last season.

"It was difficult for me when I first arrived because I had lost six or seven weeks of fitness beforehand.

"So I am looking forward to getting in a full pre-season and I want to be 100% fit to give myself every chance.

"Hopefully, I will get some of the pre-season games and then get some games in the SPL.

"If I do get the opportunity it will be down to me to impress and the rest of the boys will have to do the same."
