Pompey will sell Johnson for right sum

Sat 13 Jun, 02:15 PM

Portsmouth executive chairman Peter Storrie has admitted Glen Johnson could leave Fratton Park this summer.

Storrie confirmed on Saturday that there is interest in the former Chelsea defender, with reports suggesting some clubs are willing to pay up to £18million for the 24-year-old player.

Although Storrie refused to be drawn on the details of such a deal, he did say that a deal could be struck "in the not-too-distant future".

"It is very hard to hold someone back in Glen's situation. I accept that," Storrie told Sky Sports News.

Asked if the player could leave for a fee of up to £18million, Storrie added: "You could be right. On the numbers we will keep that private. But you may not be million miles away. He is attracting the big clubs.

"We need to be fair to Glen, see what Glen wants to do and see what is right for him and for Portsmouth. Something may happen in the not-too-distant future."

Storrie added that while Portsmouth were happy to allow Johnson to move to a bigger club, they would only do so should they receive an offer they deemed appropriate.

"Glen has obviously had a fantastic season season for us and has established himself as one of the best right-backs in the league if not the country at the moment," Storrie said.

"I've known Glen for a long time since his West Ham days so when I re-signed him we talked it over and he asked if one of the big four clubs, who were in the Champions League, came in for him would we stand in his way of a move.

"I said that I couldn't do that provided the deal is good for Portsmouth and for Glen."

  1. He'll want to go for Champions League footy and who could blame him?
If Al Fahim completes the takeover quickly then there's no reason why the club couldn't convince Glen to stay; just as long as we are able to attract some big names to the club in a bid to move forward next season to further our own bid for European football. Storries done masses for this Portsmouth Football Club and I don't understand how half these ignorant tossers on here can criticize.
