Cardiff began their pre-season with a double success as two seperate teams recorded wins at Merthyr and Carmarthen.Manager Dave Jones split his squad in half and sent strong sides to both of their Welsh rivals, and was rewarded with two comfortable victories

Jon Brown, Steve Thompson and Academy youngster Billy Taylor were on target in the 3-1 win at Merthyr, while Paul Parry scored a hat-trick in the 5-0 triumph at Carmarthen, with Rhys Kelleher and a Chris Thomas own-goal rounding off the scoring.
