Hibernian boss Mixu Paatelainen has warned his players must improve their teamwork after their Intertoto Cup exit in Sweden. The Finn's side were beaten 2-0 by Elfsborg for the second successive weekend as their hopes of reaching the UEFA Cup evaporated.
Paatelainen expected his team to struggle to some extent given the early stage of their preparations for the season.
But he was scathing of their concentration after losing a goal in each half to Mathias Floren and Emir Bajrami.
The Hibs boss said: "We have a long way to go in terms of willingness to defend as a team and taking care with our passing, making sure we are in the right areas to defend or attack.
"Some players just switch off and do not do their jobs and it is very difficult to get a team performance if one or two are not doing it."
Despite the defeat against a side sitting second in the Swedish top flight, Paatelainen felt the Intertoto adventure had been worthwhile.
"I am absolutely convinced that these games will help us greatly when the SPL season starts next month. That is the reason why we entered the competition," he said.
"We wanted to get competitive games and we did. You might say that the draw was against us and it might have been easier in the first game, but on the other hand it was a fantastic opportunity to play against a team like Elfsborg who have tremendous players.
"They play as a team and put in a great performance, so we learned a lot and for our boys it was an eye-opener.
"Some youngsters had never played in Europe and found themselves up against quality players.
"I'll go home now and analyse the game, take from it positives as well as negatives."
