Robins hold own against Fenerbahce

Sun 13 Jul, 05:15 PM

Swindon took part in a thrilling 1-1 draw against regular Champions League contenders Fenerbahce in Kufstein, Turkey in a friendly match. The Turkish giants included a number of their international stars including Mateja Kezman and Roberto Carlos in the starting line-up.

It was the former, Kezman, who opened the scoring after he latched onto a ball whipped into the area to head home beyond Phil Smith.

But on the hour mark the Robins were deservedly level thanks to a powerful strike from Simon Cox.

"The scoreline was nice but the pleasing thing was the performance," boss Maurice Malpas told the club's official website.

"I am delighted with the fitness of the players and the attitude they are showing. This tour is all about getting the lungs, legs and brains all into gear and we are getting there."
