Derby County may sign Patrick Kisnorbo after the former Leicester City defender impressed on trial.

They will not, however, offer former Norwich City midfielder Mark Fotheringham a contract.

Kisnorbo (pictured), 28, is a free agent and played just over an hour of the Rams' opening pre-season fixture at Burton.

"We were very pleased with what we saw from Patrick for around an hour. It is well documented that centre-half is a position we are looking to improve and he may well be an improvement on what we have got," said Rams boss Nigel Clough.

"He has got Championship experience and although he is not 6' 4", he competes well and he can play full-back as well so it covers us in that position. We will sit down and have a chat with him."

Fotheringham, 25, also trained with the Rams last week and impressed during 55 minutes at Burton, but Clough says he has too many midfielders to justify taking another permanently.

"I've had a chat with Mark and the problem is we've got three good players in the middle in Paul Green, Robbie Savage and Stephen Pearson - and all of them are on contract," said Clough.

"So we probably cannot pursue anything with Mark, but for a week I've never seen a trialist come in and work as hard as he has."

Derby are considering signing a midfielder on loan from a Premier League club instead.
