Premier League - Black Cats sign Paraguay skipper

Steve Bruce has signed Paraguay captain Paulo Da Silva for Sunderland from Mexcian club Toluca.

The 29-year-old defender is Bruce's second signing as Black Cats boss following the capture of England U21 striker Frazier Campbell from Manchester United.

"I'm delighted to have signed a player of Paulo's experience," said Bruce.

"He is captain of his country and has played at the highest level in South America so will bring leadership qualities to our side."

Da Silva, a right-sided defender, has played over fifty times for his country and enjoyed spells at Italian sides Venezia and Perugia before joining Toluca.

He had been at the Mexican side since 2003 and made almost 200 appearances for the club.
