Germany's Martin Kaymer won his second tournament in as many weeks at Loch Lomond on Sunday, and now stands on the verge of the world's top 10.
Kaymer is one of the most gifted players of the new generation, but he's sometimes struggled to play to his potential.
Before his recent wins he had enjoyed two other victories out on Tour - but he'd also developed a nasty reputation for imploding on the game's biggest stages.
Kaymer has yet to finish inside the top-50 at a Major, despite his sublime ball striking skills and all-round ability - and as a player with ambitions to climb golf's highest peaks, he just shouldn't be continually struggling that way.
But his two wins in a fortnight - both against high-quality fields - must surely spell the end of the self-doubts that have plagued the 24-year-old.
And now that he stands on the edge of the world's top-10 the time is right for him to go to Turnberry and contend - even if winning for a third consecutive week might be too much of a fairytale to hope for.
