Naughton considering other options

Mon 13 Jul, 02:15 PM

Everton are locked in what could soon become a three-club battle to sign Sheffield United's full-back Kyle Naughton.

Last week Everton agreed a fee with the Yorkshire club and the 20-year-old was given permission to talk to the Merseysiders over personal terms.

Naughton played for the Blades on Friday in a pre-season friendly in Malta, with manager Kevin Blackwell saying: "Sadly, that was his last game for the club. I don't want to lose my best players but the clubs have agreed on a fee."

But since then Tottenham have made a late bid for the player, with Aston Villa apparently also waiting in the wings.

Everton were expecting Naughton at Goodison Park today for a medical, but it is now believed that his advisors are also discussing terms with Spurs as well as the FA Cup finalists.

The Toffees believe that Naughton wants to join them, and are far from happy with the way the deal has been derailed over the past few days.

Everton had agreed a £5million fee, but Spurs are believed to have improved on that, and the negotiations are now expected to drag on for a few days yet.

Everton have also been linked with Reading winger Steve Hunt and Cardiff midfielder Joe Ledley as boss David Moyes bids to boost a squad that finished fifth in the Premier League last season.

  2. RE: post one khorrocks3 Kyle is not greedy, he is a young developing young man who is more than likely confused an bewilded at what's going on,he was told that he wasn't for sale and his future was at the blade's then while he was away a deal was done.Get a grip, he must be considering what is the right move for himself and his family, and after your comment's if he does go i hope he say @#$% you to everton and goes elsewere as with fan's like you he can do without.

  4. Forget him David. If he really needs convinvcing after what Everton and DM especially have already done for Championship players such as Jags, Lescott and Gosling then you know he is only in it for the money. Let him rot in the Spurs reserves or sat next to Hurry Redneck on the bench, find someone else who wants to wear Royal Blue and play in Europe. Can't blame Sheffield United as they are just tarts and need the money!

  5. We shoul defo get Jo Ledley, an Evertonian as well, scored some cracking goals for Cardiff, Not jure on Stephen Hunt, as Reading went down and still not come back up, Deffour would be ideal, but need someone that can put agood tackle in as we still haven't replaced super Lee Carsley yet, Yaya Toure would be great 25mil smash are transfer record lol, i'll even chip in a few quid.

  10. I hate Villa and Totteham, tottenham rely on pace too much and villa score jammy goals.. And all of a sudden they want a player we are after? What a load of bull... Typical scumbags who can't find talent themselves.

Let's hope Kyle see the light and relises that he has a huge chance in Royal Blue than in white or maroon. Come on Kyle! Why would you want to turn down 5th position for 6th? Or even to a team that can't even make Europa League over Fulham!

  11. i don't think naughton would want to join spurs, think thats just some speculation... i agree about if he wants to join them.. let him, wouldn't bother me that a greedy player doesnt play for us. we don't need him.

ive heard spurs would loan him back out to the Blades though what would be a pointless deal for him. Under David Moyes he has a far better chance of getting into the world cup squad. If he joins us, and stays with us until world cup 2014, i will have a £50 bet with anyone he will be selected for the main sqaud to travel their. Almost certain on that, under Moyes he will because a far better player than under Hawwy Redneck. He is a good manager but on Moyes' record he's turned more young players into better players than Hawwy ever has.

Less competition anyways, only competing to Tony Hibbert, that should be very easy for him if hes as good as the Blades manager says he is..

    COYBB! Everton FC fan.

  12. Most would give their right arm to play under David Moyes and if he has to think about it then he's in cuckoo land! Just look what Moyes has done with all the othet bargain guys!!!!!!!!!

  13. IF HE IS NOT KEEN TO JOIN THE BEST TEAM OUTSIDE THE TOP 4 THEN LETS MOVE ON AND FIND SOMEBODY THAT CAN SEE THE GREAT TEAM WE HAVE AND REALLY WANTS TO BE PART OF WHAT WILL BE A TOP FOUR TEAM THIS SEASON.

  14. Kyle Naughton is a very good player anc could well become a hero at Goodison Park if he decides to join Everton. It is sad that Spurs and Villa also appear to have joined the hunt and we can only hope that David Moyes is successful in his negotiations. I do not know how effective Defour could be but if he can boss the middle of the park then I hope Moyes is successful. Ledley and Hunt would effectively help to produce a very effective squad. All we want is a team of players that can produce a consistently strong performance and be highly motivated to win for Everton.
