Swindon snap up Cuthbert

Mon 13 Jul, 11:10 AM

Swindon have made their fifth signing of the summer with the capture of defender Scott Cuthbert from Celtic for an undisclosed fee.

The 22-year-old joined the Scottish giants from a young age before rising steadily, going on to captain the reserve side. He enjoyed a short loan spell at Livingston during winter of the 2006/07 campaign, before making over 34 appearances for St Mirren on a season-long deal last term.

Cuthbert, who also played for Scotland's B team in May, has now joined his new team-mates on their pre-season tour of Austria.

Manager Danny Wilson told the club's official website: "In my opinion Scott has a great career in front of him. He is just breaking into the full Scotland squad having played for the 'B' team and it is great that we can sign someone of his calibre.

"He will bring us pace, enthusiasm and a commitment that you expect from defenders and he likes to defend."

Cuthbert follows hot on the heels of recent capture Jonathan Douglas and fellow new arrivals Gordon Greer, Alan O'Brien and David Lucas.
