Adkins rues poor Iron performance

Wed 13 Aug, 12:13 PM

Nigel Adkins blasted his Scunthorpe side after they slumped out of the Carling Cup at the hands of Hartlepool for the second successive season.Second-half goals from Joel Porter, David Foley and James Brown ensured Pools progressed to round two thanks to a 3-0 win.

"That sort of performance is just not acceptable from any team of mine," said Adkins. "The players have been left in no doubt whatsoever of that.

"All credit to Hartlepool, who played as well as we played badly. But some of our players have de-selected themselves after that sort of performance. It just isn't good enough.

"I expected us to do well this season, but we don't if we play like that.

"We gave Hartlepool the time and space they needed to play their game and we never had a chance of getting away with that. In the first half we did all right but in the second we just weren't there."
