Grimsby manager Alan Buckley hailed his side's discipline after the 2-0 Carling Cup win over League One outfit Tranmere on Tuesday night.James Hunt fired the Mariners in front before Ben Chorley's own-goal sealed Grimsby's progression through to round two and left Buckley purring.
"I can't ask any more of my players in the last two games," said Buckley. "I am delighted with the result obviously but what pleased me the most was the discipline we kept throughout the game.
"Of course they had chances and you expect that against a team from a higher division, but we played some good football ourselves at times on the night.
"We scored a very well-worked first goal after a great move and in fact our second, albeit an own goal, also came from a fantastic break down the left.
"We've had two really hard games in just a few days and the lads have given absolutely everything. We've got some new faces on board and I'm delighted how quickly they have settled. I'm especially pleased with the defence who claimed another clean sheet and although there is still some way to go, it's great for the whole defence and their confidence."
