Laws: Owls should have won it

Wed 13 Aug, 03:00 PM

Sheffield Wednesday boss Brian Laws lamented his side's poor finishing as they fell to League Two neighbours Rotherham in the Carling Cup.Wednesday winger Etienne Esajas had twice put Laws' side ahead - the second in extra-time - but the Millers hit back immediately on both occasions through Alex Rhodes and Reuben Reid.

Reid also stepped up to score the winning penalty after a shoot-out.

Laws said: "We had enough chances to win three or four games, but let's not take too much away from Rotherham.

"They worked extremely hard, so credit to them, they never gave up."

Laws, who is already without Akpo Sodje received a further blow with the news that Marcus Tudgay will miss time after suffering a thigh strain.

Laws said: "I took Deon Burton off because I didn't want to take another risk - Marcus could be out for two weeks. He's strained his thigh and that's knocked us for six.

"We've got to wrap the strikers we have got fit in cotton wool. It emphasises the fact we're very thin on the ground."

  1. And I like what you're saying about fans Cherry. I come from Sheffield, and support Wednesday, yet my place of work is full of glory supporters, mostly Manchester United. I admire you for sticking with your team for all their trouble and to be honest with you I think they'll be fine - Bournemouth & Luton will be for the drop i think.

  2. Etienne Esajas scored 2 good goals but we weren't really good enough and the better team probably won. We should be able to keep a lead for more than a minute. If we do it too often it'll be really costly.

  3. Thanks for the somewhat begrudged comment about Rotherham ,Laws. Rotherham deserve whatever they get because of all the rubbish they have had to deal with lately.May I take this opportunity to suggest to football fans who were born and bred and live in Rotherham that they support their own team instead of one of the Sheffields or even worse Man U.I do and I wasn't born here !I also support my home town but as I live in Rotherham, am married to a Rotherham man and have grandchildren born here I love Rotherham as well.I think so called fans who travel to other venues when they have their own team are disloyal.
