World Cup hosts South Africa conceded three goals at home for a second successive game when they lost 3-1 to Serbia in a friendly international at the Super Stadium in Atteridgeville.

Manchester United's Zoran Tosic came on as a second-half substitute to score twice with an effort from Danko Lazovic in between.

A last-minute goal from Katlego Mphela avoided South Africa's heaviest home defeat but the loss continued concerns about the ability of the hosts to prove competitive at next year's World Cup finals.

South Africa lost 3-2 to Spain in their last game of June's Confederations Cup where they finished fourth despite only one win in five matches at the tournament.
