Richards urges league focus

Marc Richards insists Port Vale must forget about Tuesday`s Carling Cup exploits at Sheffield United as they prepare to get back to League Two action at Bradford this weekend.

The Valiants were rewarded for their 2-1 triumph at Bramall Lane with a home clash against city rivals Sheffield Wednesday, with the tie due to take place the week commencing August 24.

Two-goal match winner Richards remains on a high after Vale`s headline-grabbing victory, but he admits league action takes priority over any cup run as Micky Adams prepares his side for the trip to Valley Parade.

"The lads worked really hard on Tuesday and we got our just rewards in getting a good result," he told The Sentinel. "We rode our luck at times, and Chris Martin had a fantastic game, as did the rest of the defence.

"We are chuffed to get through to the next round but now we have to concentrate on the league, which is our priority. Come Saturday, the Sheffield United result will be put firmly to the back of our minds."

Meanwhile, Adams has invited former Blackpool midfielder Claus Jorgensen, 33, to train with Vale following his release by the Championship outfit.
