Chris Turner praised the tenacity of his Hartlepool side despite a fifth home game without a win in a 1-1 draw with Wycombe at Victoria Park.
After flirting with relegation last season, boss Turner believes his new-look side will gel in the coming weeks after a game they could quite easily have lost last season.
He said: "Wycombe were organised and when they scored I feared we wouldn't get back into it because they had a lot of men behind the ball. They were tough to break down.
"We had a few chances without really testing them. They played like an away team should - a bit like we do on the road."
Both sides went for a late winner following Adam Boyd's 79th-minute equaliser, and Turner added: "We got a good goal back with Adam and he could have got another to win it."
