Formula One World Championship leader Lewis Hamilton has said it was unfair to punish he and Felipe Massa equally after their respective mistakes in the Japanese Grand Prix.
McLaren driver Hamilton's advantage over title rival Massa is down to five points after the Brazilian was promoted to seventh following a post-race penalty for Sebastien Bourdais.
Bourdais was adjudged to have been at fault when he and Massa touched as the Frenchman exited the pit-lane, while the Ferrari driver served a drive-through penalty for earlier causing Hamilton to spin and the Briton suffered the same fate for forcing Raikkonen off the track at the race start.
Hamilton (pictured in red cap) said he committed an error after losing his pole position to fellow front-row starter Raikkonen while indicating that he was not happy that Massa was not punished more heavily.
"You can always look back and wish you did something else," he reflected. "I made a mistake and I paid for it. This sort of thing happens: you've just got to keep your head up and keep going.
"We [he and Massa] both got the same penalty, but I didn't hit anyone and he did. I guess that's just the name of the game."
Before learning of Massa's second point thanks to the Bourdais punishment, Hamilton said the World Championship race was unaffected by events at Fuji.
"I don't think it makes any difference," he said. "I lost one point today, which I guess is damage limitation, and we'll move on to next week.
"We will still be just as competitive, and we're going to make sure we win the last two races - not at any cost, but we plan on winning."
The final rounds are set for China and Brazil, with the next race in Shanghai in a week's time.

Gareth you are right, it wont be long before there is a breakaway from the f1
shaun you sound like a child
I beleive this is the begining of the end for F1 as we know it and the beakaway thing a few years ago will start up again, it wont be long, let the red cars play with themseves.
SHAUN C - u talk big sweaty pants
RICK M - HO HO :o)
In other words:- upper case M - lower case C - upper case L - lower case a - r - e - n :- McLaren
Never heard of mcclaran and never heard of mclaran either. The team is called McLaren, DUMBO.
could somebody tell me who mcclaran are never heard of them as for mclaran stick to makeing pushchairs
F1 is no longer a racing sport. It is a fixed and corupt sport that only allows overtaking in pit lane. Having gone to silverstone for the past 5 years and watched all "races" on the telly, i am no longer a fan. I will not be watching the last 2 races for fear of kicking my telly in, and that will cost me lots!! I am going to stick with motorbike racing, and yes, thay can and are allowed to overtake. BSB, WSB and moto GP plus all the other support races, fantastic. I also love BTCC, where you can go and watch all the races for the same cost as going to silverstone to watch one pooh race where you are kept miles away from the "stars" Anyway, enough moaning now, goodbye F1.
I GIVE UP ON F1 NOW, BEEN A FAN SINCE JAKIE STEWARD WAS DRIVING, HOWEVER WHAT I HAVE SEEN DONE TO McCLAREN AND LEWIS, WITH THE STEWARDS BENT THINKING, THEY WAY THEY HAND OUT PENALTIES, IT'S SO BLOODY OBVIOUS THEY ARE BEHIND THEY WAY THE SPORT HAS GONE, IF THE FIA AND THEIR PARTENERS FERRAI WANT TO WIN BY BENDING THE RULES EACH RACE, LET THEM HAVE IT, THIS SPORT IS GOING TO DIE OVERNIGHT UNLESS IT IS RUN WITHOUT BACK DOOR DEALINGS, THAT MEANS NO BENDING THE RULES FOR ANY TEAM, WHICH WE CAN ALL SEE HAPPENING FOR ONE PARTICULAR TEAM ! IT'S SO BLOODY SAD
HAMILTON DONE NOTHING WRONG BUT BECAUSE THE STEWARDS HAD TO PENAILSE MASSA THEY GAVE LEWIS A PENALTY AS WELL. ALSO BOURDAIS DID NOTHING WRONG BUT MASSA ENDED UP WITH AN EXTRA POINT OUT OF IT. NOT SUSPICIOUS AT ALL (AHEM).
MASSA IS A CHEAT
Massa is a cheat! GO LEWIS
Just pathetic, that what lewis hamilton is !!!
Why is CHEATA MASSA called FATS? Its it because he is a bit of a porker or 'cos he tells pork pies?
Easyrider talking sense as usual, Shaun C the usual sycophantic cr#p. As for Jessy M - Jessy by name, Jessy by nature.
Shaun, have you been talking to Eddie Irvine, ex Ferrari Bulldozer!
Why didn`t LH go wide? Why should he, he trying to win a race not play catch with Fats Massa! Why did Fats not brake instead of cutting across the grass and RAMMING LH? Answer: Cos he is a typical Ferrari/Schumacher Product! LH is a Cry Baby? Dunno about that but Ferrai definately are! LH is dirty? Sorry don`t understand that! Massa is Good? Can`t say he is, but he doesn`t need to be, with his Ferrari advantage he can get by with being a little better than the average F1 Pilot! Kimi knows all about the Ferrari lever, thats why me moved from McClaren! LH has balls, have to ask Pussycat about that, but he sure got what it takes!
Nothing to do with the racing here but if my name was "Jessy" I wouldnt want to use it as my user name. Unless your a hormonic girl which it sounds like you are Jess.
has nobody realised that hamilton was trying to take massa out even if he went with him a 7 point lead with 2 races to go is better than a 7 point lead with 3 to go the cheating little c*** should have his licence revoked i bet if a force india or torro rosso driver did it they would never drive in f1 again but we know the fia would never dare do it as they would be accuesed of being racests
You're right. There have always been incidents at the 1st corner, damned well nearly every race, and there always will be unless starts are made under the pace car or overtaking is forbidden until after the first corner or something equally crass. As for the Seb incident you will have to join the Millions of other viewers who don't understand the decision. Even the most sycophantic Ferrari supporters don't understand why Seb was penalised.
