John Higgins made an impressive start to the Grand Prix championship with a whitewash 5-0 victory over an out-of-sorts Anthony Hamilton in Glasgow.
Hamilton had his chances in more than one frame but his potting deserted him all day long and Higgins took full advantage.
After scrapping his way to the opener, the Scot got motoring thanks to a 97 clearance in the second and then came from behind to take the third with a break of 54.
Higgins then went into the mid-session interval on a high after potting every ball on the table for a clearance of 134 to give himself a 4-0 advantage.
He needed two chances to take the final frame, but a break of 58 eventually saw him move on.
With the Grand Prix adopting an opening draw from the second round on, Higgins will have to wait until Tuesday to find out his last 16 opponent.
In the day's other match, Joe Perry defeated Barry Hawkins 5-3 in a scrappy contest lacking in quality.
Hawkins had fought his way back from 3-1 down to make it 3-3 and looked on course to take the lead as he led 60-16 in the next frame.
However, Perry produced a 56 clearance to nick the frame and then edged an epic final frame 61-51 to sneak into the last 16.

I think that if O'Sullivan makes it into the final he really has to gear up his performance in order to beat an unleashed Higgins.
Let's hope this will be the final, and not some boring slow disco featuring Cheater Ebdon!
Yup, Higgins - O'Sullivan is my hope for a final too. What a final that would be !...
I hope it is late at night so I will not need my tablets to go to sleep. YAWN, almost as bad as Grand Prix
Yeah! C'mon Higgins! Watched that whole victory. He played so well! Him and O'Sulivan in the final! Can't wait1 It'll be a good match, cos Higgins is on form and O'Sulivan is...O'Sulivan.
