Premier League - Liverpool deny stadium talk

Eurosport - Mon, 13 Oct 11:33:00 2008

Liverpool have dismissed rumours that they have shelved plans to move to a new stadium and are looking to expand Anfield.

Reports suggested owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett were struggling to raise the funds to finance a switch to a new ground in Stanley Park.

And while the Reds confess the new stadium has been delayed by the current worldwide credit crunch, they also make it clear that the plans are still in place.

"The story is completely wrong," said a club spokesman.

"No-one has been asked to look at increasing the capacity of Anfield with a view to us staying at the present ground.

"Global market conditions may have delayed the project, but the club remains committed to building a new world-class LFC stadium on the site in Stanley Park.

"Those plans have not changed."

  1. in simple terms liverpool sold out to the wrong consortium who where very economical with the truth and who would be left with the debt, in reals terms they have invested none of there own money, so they have nothing to lose but alot to gain
b4 someone says they have lfc holdings was set up to own liverpool and it is that company that has the massive debt

  6. This American takeover has been a shambles and Parry must take the blame. Hicks and Gillett are not willing to risk their own money and are plunging the club deeper into debt. M. Shaw
