Kris Boyd has confirmed he will not play for Scotland again while George Burley is manager.
The Rangers striker was an unused substitute in Saturday's goalless World Cup qualifier against Norway at Hampden.
Boyd told BBC Scotland that he has informed both Burley and Scottish Football Association chief executive Gordon Smith of his decision.
"I left a message on George Burley's phone last night and he hadn't got back to me," Boyd said.
"I didn't think just leaving a message was very professional, so I spoke with Gordon Smith and informed him of my decision."
But Boyd insisted he had not closed the door on his Scotland career completely, adding: "I will not be playing for George Burley again, but I hope to be back in a Scotland jersey again one day."
Boyd has reportedly become frustrated at his lack of involvement under the Scotland boss, playing just 28 minutes of six games while Burley has been at the helm.
And, with seven goals from 15 appearances for the national team, he would have been further disappointed to remain on the bench for the entire game against Norway.
Having started with James McFadden as the lone striker, Burley then turned to Steven Fletcher and Chris Iwelumo - with just one cap between them - in a vain attempt to claim a win.
Boyd's stance follows the decision of Rangers club-mate Lee McCulloch to retire from international football last month.
In a statement, Burley said: "I've spoken with Kris and he told me that he was disappointed not to play on Saturday or in the last couple of matches.
"He said that he did not want to be considered for future Scotland squads so that he can concentrate on his club career.
"It is disappointing that he has chosen to do this at a crucial time in our World Cup campaign, but it is his decision to make and I will, of course, respect it."

I wish Boyd would take a look at the Beckham...he's seen it all and done it all...and even at this late stage in his career is still twice the player Boyd will ever be. Do you see Beckham complaining about sitting on the subs bench....no....he'd cut up the oranges if he thought it would do his country good. That is the attitude that is needed when playing for your country. Whether Burley's selection is good or bad is immaterial. He was contracted for the world cup by the powers that be and that's what he should be allowed to do. If he fails then that is the time to make a decision to replace him....but who with, God only knows. Until then we should support the team.
The problem with Boyd is he hasn't grown up yet. Right now it's all Me Me Me. He's got a wee bit of talent and he thinks he's Ronaldo. By saying he is not willing to play for Scotland under this particular manager but willing to play at a later time really means he is hoping Scotland will fail. He should be shown the door and told..."sorry son...this is a man's game and we don't want weans"...and that's even if he was Ronaldo....which he is not by a long long way.
Everyone keeps pointing out that you are playing for your country and not the manager. WAKE UP PLEASE the guy aint playin at all that was his point. Burley clearly has or had no intention of playing Boyd despite his goal scoring record. If you are almost sure the guy will get you goals who cares how much work he does. Work rate alone will not get you goals just look at Kenny Miller works like hell but most of the time he couldnt hit a bull in the a**e with a spade.
kris boyd is a big spoiled boy and mark my words he wont be missed. put it this way mcleish signed him and kept him on the bench and the trend continues with walter smith and george burley. these three managers are not idiots so boyd must be doing something wrong, is it his attitude? is it his way of life? get a grip boyd you are no van basten and with all the coaching in the world you never will be. thanks for the memories loser, NOT L.O.L.
I can understand Kris Boyds frustration at not getting on atall during the game, with his scoring record but I cannot tolerate his attitude. Theres no need to turn his back on his country just because hes not getting a game. He should have stayed and proved, like he does week in week out for Rangers that he is an out and out goal scorer. Yes he may be a lazy sod but he scores the goals and afterall thats what he gets paid to do.
it is very bad attitude for a player irrespective of your status to quit playing for his/her country because the coach felt that other players are better than him. such attitude only show that the player do not respect his/her team mates, and the team as a whole. well, this can only happen in 'small' teams. can you imaging something like this in Brazil or Argentina, or Spain, where there many players waiting on the list and count it as a privilege to wear their national colour. in addition, i think it is responsible of the coach to choice his players and team, not a player or FA. most (if not all) of the time, coach are fire because the players failed to perform.
he scored a cracker against Partick Thistle not Real Madrid or Barcelona, maybe he was dreaming it was.
Boyd's got every right to be annoyed but his attitude is wrong. McFadden was played out of position and Maloney flatters to decieve. Only Brown and Gordon got pass marks.
Kris Boyd will now never be able to prove George Burley wrong. We all know that Kris Boyd can score goals as he is a natural goal scorer. It is just complete nonsense that the guy dosnt work in a game. I would go as far as to say that teams that are playing either against Scotland or Rangers must think. Great,Boyds on the bench again. Scotland is not good enough to leave someone like Boyd on the bench. George Burley did not make the correct selection in Iwelumo over Boyd in such a crucial game. But i do still rate George Burley. I also think that George Burley and Kris Boyd should sort this out now, man to man. Lets get the toys back in the pram. A footballers career is far to short so lets see this sorted out Kris?? A good few players did,nt step up to the mark on Saturday. As usual its the people paying to watch that suffers. The people with not a lot of money still going to games, watching a half hearted effort. And yes thats all it was. I will need to stop now as i am getting angry.
No player is ever bigger than his country or its manager, would Boyd have reacted like that if Sir Alex Ferguson was in charge? I think not.
kris boyd should grow up and stopped acting like a chimp that has had his banana taken away and realise just how forntunate a situation he is in, he should never play for scotland again and should be shunned for this tantrum he will be no great loss plenty more would love to be in his shoes.
any Scot who pulls on that jersey should always remember, your not playing for the manager, your playing for Scotland.
whether you agree or not with George Burley is irrelevant, he is the Scotland manager, and i think it's time for the SFA and future Scotland managers to never again consider anyone who turns their back on their country, im sick of these people, and have been for twenty years, it never happened in my fathers day, Chris Boyd should never ever play for Scotland again, i cant believe he thinks so highly of himself, maybe him and Jayne Goody should get together and discuss their plans for a joint public funeral.
This whole issue smacks of "dummies and prams". Kris Boyd needs to grow up. The Scotland Squad cetainly DOES NOT NEED players who walk away in the huff. If they are committed, loyal Scots they will play regardless and take pride in wearing the jersey!
Managers have to make decisions - thats their job. A players job is to get on with it. With regard to Mr Burley, I hope he is a loyal scot unlike Mcleish and Smith and McCoist who happily turned their backs on their country when it suited them!!
Disgraceful attitude, its a good job scotland dont have people like boyd in the british army. Walking out on ur country is pathetic.
If for a moment you could park your rabid anti-Rangers ranting lets look at the facts. 0-0 against Norway with half an hour to go in a must win game there is only one logical choice to bring on. The man who rescued so many similar situations before. Kris Boyd goals per game ratio, even as sub, is outstanding. Does anybody really think that Boyd would have missed the 2 major chances on Saturday. Of course not..So when you calm down a wee bit...this ridiculous decision means we only get to watch England in the next World Cup...again. Boydie is right not to play for Burley - still wont be long till he is back in a Scotland shirt.
The simple truth is Kris Boyd (and I have not forgiven him for leaving Killie) is the best we currently have. Seven goals in Fifteen games is the best strike rate we have seen for a Scotland team in years. So what if he acts a little spoilt? Who the hell is Chris Iwelumu and what WORLD CUP qualifier experience does he have? Burley has no real achievement in management and has to take all the blame for our non-qualification, which will be the end result if he stays in charge. Kris is highlighting the absence of common sense, albeit churlishly. It is time for Burley to realise he is not the man for the job. George, please do the honourable thing and leave now and let the new guy play our BEST striker!!!
Burley is fairly new to the post yet Boyd is upset at 6 games on the nech. cry baby
I THINK BOYD IS ACTING LIKE AN OVER RATED BUT AVERAGE STRIKER AND SHOULD GIVE UP INTERNATIONAL FOOTBALL FOR THE RIGHT REASONS - THE FACT HE IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH!.BUT AS FOR BURLEY HOW CAN YOU GIVE A MANAGER A CHANCE WHEN HE PLAYS NEGATIVE TACTICS AT HOME LIKE PLAYING ONE UP FRONT. GET A GRIP!
the point is that he sacrifised a win by playing two inconsistent forwards also was maloney under orders as the amount of pitch in front of him was massive but he never ran into the space
