St Etienne have reacted to the growing speculation surrounding Blaise Matuidi by tying him to a new deal.
The midfielder has been a key figure for les Verts since joining the club from Troyes in 2007 and is reported to have caught the eye of Arsenal chief Arsene Wenger.
St Etienne have maintained that any club interested in Matuisdi will have to dig deep and they have reinforced their position by adding two years to his commitment.
Matuidi is now committed to St Etienne until the summer of 2013 and the midfielder is delighted to have signed on the dotted line.
"I am very happy and proud," he told St Etienne's official website. "I am very satisfied to continue playing for Les Verts, as I have always said, it is a great club."

Never understood the point of a player signing an extension with a small club then trying to see if you can be a star for a bigger club. Just plain dumb.
Extending his contract means preparing him to go. He wants to join arsenal which they have understood, but he is not desperate about it. So, I think he doesn't want to go on the cheap. He wants to make headlines when the transfer window opens.
He let them con him...Yeah right as if Arsenal won't be better for his career than St. Etienne..oh well, plenty where that came from 6m and not a penny more, take it or leave it.
So what!Arsenal players looked better than this guy.
that will not stop us from getting him if and when we want to, it will do him a lot of good to play for a great team like arsenal under an outstanding manager like arsene wenger
