Defence responded to Scott criticism - Bennett

Brentford skipper Alan Bennett admitted some strong words from manager Andy Scott have had the desired effect in the Bees' defence.

Bennett and central-defensive partner Mark Phillips came in for criticism from Scott after the recent 3-2 defeat by Swindon.

But they were back to their commanding best in the goalless draw at Hartlepool and the Irishman is looking for another strong performance against Leyton Orient this weekend.

"After last week it was a great way to respond, a clean sheet, and we are really happy as a unit," said Bennett.

"The criticism from the manager may have been a kick up the backside for some. That is the minimum we need to do from now on.

"Now we have to make sure the front five do it going forward and to play well in both areas. If we do that we will win the game."
