Premier League - Kuyt sustains 'serious injury'
Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt has been taken to hospital with a serious ankle injury sustained during Netherlands' Euro 2012 qualifier against Sweden.
The Dutchman had to come off just before the half-hour mark in the Group E match when he landed awkwardly after jumping for a ball with Sweden's Daniel Majstorovic.
"Dirk wanted to play on but our doctor prevented that and told me to substitute him," Netherlands coach Bert van Marwijk said after his side's 4-1 win.
"He is now in a hospital but following the doctor's first opinion it could be very serious and keep him sidelined for a long time."
The unlucky Kuyt had to pull out of the squad preparing for Euro 2012 qualifying matches in September after injuring his shoulder during a training session with the national team.
Meanwhile defender Daniel Agger, making his comeback from a groin problem, lasted only 39 minutes of Denmark's game against Cyprus.
According to the Liverpool website, both players will be assessed on their return to Melwood before any decision is made about the weekend, when they face local rivals Everton at Goodison Park..

i blame nigel de jong, if he wouldnt have started all this ruff football kuyt would never have got hurt .
Silly Kuynt bet he's hopping mad, ha,ha,ha,ha,ha, he could benefit from a Lim then.
Good player wasting his career at deadpool !!
I dont think liverpool will miss kuyt at all he just runs around like a headless chicken, this could be the chance to bring in a decent striker, they should have signed bent when they had the chance instead of letting him go to a smaller club like sunderland
Hope u get well soon..!!!
Owen P , You TIT !!
scousers are like mackerel. Thick as @#$% and will bite on anything.
with all the war and famine going on in the world,a big thank you to Liverpool fc for being what you are. A long running joke that is always fun to hear about :)
am sure Evertonians will be laughing even louder....and who can blame them......liverpool just let benitez screw them while the fans kept singing in rafa we trust......am sure as he cashed his six million walk away fee he could still hear them.....
All the morons posting dumba55 comments about Liverpool,You would be so much better at it if you learned how to spell. How can you be taken seriously when you are illiterate? F*ck heads
ahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahah ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah.
Elrosso...the most intelligent thing to come out of your mouth was stephen hawkings d.i.c.k!!!!!
elrosso..you are either blind or just an outright idiot
Get well kuyt. Injury wont affect liverpool at all.
Elrosso. You are sick in the head, you obviously haven't got a brain cell in there. You are just a nasty nasty person.
Stephen Gerrard was the best player on the pitch last night, what to happened to the rest of the premier league players.. Along with Glen Johnson, those two shone.. The others paled into just ordinary.. I suggest you all take a look at your hero's, and maybe you should be worrying about your own team's players instead of posting @#$% about Liverpool.. They will survive & become a strong force again, but then maybe that's what you are all worried about.
Hope 9 points deduction will not follow this horrible Red new?
It never rains, it pours for the poor Pool...
Maybe the euromillions winner will hand some of his fortune to liverpool being a liverpool supporter, Luck lad.
They should put De Jong back on now!
looks like babel will be getting another chance then
