Tue 13 Nov, 12:30 PM

Ipswich midfielder Owen Garvan has been ruled out of the Republic of Ireland Under-21s' trip to Montenegro due to a calf strain.Garvan limped off during the second half of Town's 6-0 win over Bristol City and will remain at Portman Road to receive treatment while Ireland travel to Montenegro for their European Championship qualifier on Friday.

With a recovery period of seven to 10 days, Garvan will face a fitness race to face Bulgaria on Tuesday November 20.

Physio Matt Byard told the club's official website: "Owen has a muscle strain in his right calf and will not be meeting up with the Republic of Ireland squad this week.

"You are normally looking at seven to 10 days as a recovery period for this type of injury but we will monitor his progress and liaise with the Ireland medical team.

"He has not yet been ruled out of the second game. It will be down to how his recovery goes and his level of fitness."
