American heavyweight Monte Barrett refused to accept a rematch clause as he launched a tirade of complaints against David Haye's promotional company when the pair came face to face on Thursday.

The 37-year-old veteran ranted about a range of issues as he launched a savage verbal attack on Haye, his trainer-manager Adam Booth and their Hayemaker Promotions company who are staging Saturday night's fight at London's 02 Arena.

But any doubts about the fight taking place were dispelled when Booth agreed to remove the rematch clause which Barrett claimed would see him fighting Haye again for less money if he pulled off an upset win.

"I want to thank David for giving me a wonderful opportunity at this stage of my career," said Barrett before whingeing about his air tickets, his hotel, his meal allowances and even the quality of Haye's own sparring partners.

He preceded the verbal assault by clearly trying to intimidate 28-year-old Haye with tales of his violent New York upbringing.

"I train hard, I live hard, I've done things out. When I was 16 years old my cousin, who was a drug enforcer, gave me a five-shot 44 Bulldog gun and told me 'use the gun to protect yourself'.

"That was phase one of my life. Phase two, I used the gun. Phase three, I'm here now and this is easy. This fight is the easy part of my life. I love my job, this is nothing," claimed Barrett.

"I respect David for taking me on but as a fighter with a promotional company you've got to treat the fighters right.

"We have no signed contract for this fight. I know David wants it just as bad as I do but there's a rematch clause in the contract and I want to tell David man to man, once I knock you out I'll give you a rematch but I don't see why I should do it for less money than I'm getting now?

"This is about business. They've got me in a s***** hotel, they had me fly here business class, not first, and I'm a heavyweight but they give me £30 a day to eat. It costs me £22 for dinner. I'm in a 14 by 14 room."

Then he turned on Haye's American sparring partners Terry Smith and Zuri Lawrence, claiming: "They're no good. I knocked Lawrence out cold for 15 minutes in training and Smith too. I'm no joke man.

"This fight is going to be stopped, I tell you. Somebody's going home in a body bag and it's not me. David says he's going to quit boxing if I beat him, then he can work on his promotion company because right now it's s***.

"They've got me stuck up in a little box hotel but that's not how you do business."

Turning his anger on Booth he stormed: "Adam is wearing too many hats. You're the trainer, you're the manager, you're the promoter and you're the friend. You've got to cut one of those hats out."

Haye took it all calmly before firing back: "It will be sorted on Saturday night when you get stretchered out.

"I don't want you to go in there and run, I want you to stand and fight like a man because I want to knock you out."

After the press conference he said: "It's pretty sad really and just confirms he's not the mean, rugged guy that he's made out. He claims he's this warrior then spends 15 minutes moaning about everything. It seems like he's looking for a way out."

The Londoner had opened proceedings by stating: "A lot of people didn't think I had the bottle to fight someone as dangerous as Monte but all through my career I've fought tough opposition.

"People thought I was an exciting, entertaining fighter at cruiserweight but you haven't seen anything yet."
