Borussia Dortmund coach Juergen Klopp has been hit with a 12,000 euro (£10,150) fine for his rant at an official at the weekend.

The German Football Association threw the book at Klopp after he harangued referee Jochen Drees at full-time in his side's 2-1 defeat in Hamburg.

The incident also saw Dortmund defender Robert Kovac shown a red card for taking his complaints too far.

It was a bad weekend for the Bundesliga, with Stuttgart goalkeeper Jens Lehmann's open criticism of the standard of refereeing in Germany also making headlines.

Bayern Munich president Franz Beckenbauer was prompted to say: "The image is a catastrophe.

"We need other, better manners towards referees. It is not right that everybody has to get involved over a small incident.

"Players, coaches, staff - with such behaviour, they are turning the fans against the referees too."
