Wigan defender Erik Edman admits he has a fight on his hands if he is to enjoy a long run in the first team.
The 31-year-old made his first Barclays Premier League appearance since May last weekend against Fulham as regular left-back Maynor Figueroa is sidelined with a knee ligament injury.
Edman knows Figueroa is likely to get his place back as soon as he is fit but the Swede has possibly up to two months in which to impress manager Roberto Martinez.
"I still think Maynor is the first-choice left-back. He's been doing so well over the last couple of seasons," said the former Tottenham defender. "Sunday was obviously my first game under the new manager and there have been a lot of changes in the way we play.
"We're still in the transition period he speaks of and you have to give things time - especially when you have a lot of new players coming in and a new style to adapt to.
"But, having said that, I still want to do as well as possible when I'm given the chance."

nothing to worry about edman, figgy is scuttling off to pastures new in sunderland, wether there is any money for a stand by left back your guess as good as mine.but if a striker and another defender is not bought then any injuries and we will be really stretched.
