Former Colchester striker Jamie Cureton is bracing himself for a hot reception when he returns to Layer Road for the first time this weekend. The 32-year-old was the Championship's top scorer with 24 goals in the blue and white of Colchester last season, but he then put in a transfer request and moved to Norwich over the summer.
"I understand why people might give me a bad reception," he told the Colchester Gazette ahead of Saturday's televised clash.
"I appreciate fans and how they are and that's part of life and football but it's all about how you perform.
"I'm looking forward to going back to Colchester. I had a lot of success there and I can't wait to go back.
"It was the best season I've had and it came with a club that was expected to go down - I was pleased to be a part of that and I owe the club a lot."
