England World Cup captain Phil Vickery has been cited for the second time this season.

Vickery will face a disciplinary hearing in Dublin following the citing for allegedly trampling on Clermont Auvergne lock Thibaut Privat during Wasps' Heineken Cup defeat in France last Saturday.

The Wasps prop was cited and banned during the World Cup for tripping USA centre Paul Emerick during England's opening game of the tournament.

He missed subsequent pool matches against South Africa and Samoa - Leicester forward Martin Corry took over as skipper - before returning to spearhead England's push for the final.

Vickery's latest citing has been lodged by match commissioner, Welshman Aurwell Morgan, with a disciplinary hearing to be convened as soon as is practicable.

Vickery will be able to continue playing in the meantime, and he is unlikely to miss Wasps' Pool Five return fixture against Clermont at Adams Park on Saturday.

If found guilty of the offence, Vickery could realistically expect a two or three-week ban, which would probably sideline him for three Guinness Premiership games either side of Christmas.

His Six Nations prospects are unlikely to be affected, with England not starting their campaign until Wales arrive at Twickenham on February 2.

Vickery has only made two appearances for Wasps since returning from World Cup duty in late October, starting the Clermont clash and his club's EDF Energy Cup victory over Newcastle the previous week.

Wasps' 37-27 defeat against Clermont at Parc des Sports Marcel-Michelin means the reigning European champions must win on home soil to retain realistic quarter-final hopes.
