Jimmy agrees new Aberdeen deal

Mon 14 Jan, 02:01 PM

Aberdeen boss Jimmy Calderwood has agreed a new three-year contract at Pittodrie - ending the speculation about his future at the club.Assistant manager Jimmy Nicholl and coach Sandy Clark have also pledged their futures for the same period.

Difficulties over contract negotiations with several players had raised doubts about the future of the former Dunfermline boss, but he confirmed his decision to stay on Monday afternoon.

Calderwood cut a forlorn figure last week when he announced that Michael Hart, Chris Clark and Barry Nicholson had rejected new contract offers.

But Zander Diamond signed a three-and-a-half-year deal days later to raise his spirits.

Calderwood has encountered frustration over his budget but with goalkeeper Jamie Langfield also agreeing a deal before Christmas, he now has two key players sewn up.

The former Birmingham player joined the club in 2004 after taking Dunfermline to a Scottish Cup final defeat by Celtic.

The Dons have finished in the top six of the Scottish Premier League each season, culminating in last year's third place which secured European football after a five-year absence.

And the UEFA Cup campaign has exceeded expectations with a last-32 clash with Bayern Munich to look forward to next month.
