Leicester City have announced that Shaun Newton has left the club by mutual consent, despite only signing for the Foxes in the summer. The 32-year-old had played for Charlton, Wolves and West Ham before joining the Foxes on loan at the end of last season.
He made his move permanent in the summer but was unable to hold down a regular spot, making just seven league starts for the club this season.
His final appearance for the Foxes came in their 2-1 defeat at the hands of Southampton in December.
He is the second player to be released by City boss Ian Holloway in four days after striker Carl Cort agreed to have his contract terminated on Friday.
