Birmingham boss Alex McLeish remains determined to land James McFadden from Everton.
Birmingham have already had one bid of £2.5million rejected by Everton for the Scotland international.
McLeish is keen to link up with McFadden again after their success together at international level and is now ready to make a new improved bid to lure the skilful forward to St Andrews.
Blues chief McLeish is a big fan of the former Motherwell youngster and believes he would be a great addition to his squad.
He said: "James is a proven Premier League player. He has the character to play in a team of mine and he's the type of player I'm looking for.
"He's also got great technical ability and will bring extra from that point of view, if we can do the deal.
"I'd love to work with James again but you never know in this game. I know we have some competition.
"Nothing has happened. We had a recess over the weekend to get on with the football side of things. We'll wait and see how it develops."
