Mon 14 Jan, 12:22 AM

Basingstoke could not repeat the victory they claimed over Edinburgh Capitals with only 10 skaters as they went down to a 7-3 defeat at Newcastle Vipers.

Minus number one goaltender Curtis Cruickshank Bison had no answer to a rampant Newcastle side that had the game won by the end of the second period.

The home side took the advantage with two first period goals. The first came from Colin Shields and then Ben Storey netted the second for a 2-0 lead after the first period.

The Bison hit back quickly at the start of the second period and with two seconds of a powerplay remaining Greg Chambers found the net.

The home side replied immediately as Todd Jackson restored the two-goal lead and they

then struck twice in under a minute to take a 5-1 lead, through Jackson and

Mark Gouett on the powerplay.

Storey got his second of the game on the powerplay before Danny Stewart got a second goal for the Bison.

Colin Shields on the powerplay with his second gave the Vipers a 7-2 lead while Derek Campbell got the final goal of the game for Bison.
